Clusters in the west side of the bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud: interacting pairs?

چکیده
In this paper, we present the VI-CCD photometry of 11 unstudied clusters located in the bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), as a part of a project aimed to infer the star formation history of this galaxy. We derive the ages of these clusters by means of isochrone fitting. Three close pairs of clusters are included in the sample, namely NGC 1903-SL 357, SL 349SL 353, SL 387-SL 385. We discuss the surface photometry of these objects: the distortion in the isophotal contours is regarded as a sign of interactions between pairs of physically connected clusters. While the systemsSL 349-SL 353 andSL 387-SL 385 are likely pairs of nearly coeval clusters, NGC 1903-SL 357 is not because of the large age difference between the two. Several possible mechanisms for the formation of this peculiar pair are examined in the context of interactions between the Large and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC).

Interacting star clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud Overmerging problem solved by cluster group formation
We present the tidal tail distributions of a sample of candidate binary clusters located in the bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). One isolated cluster, SL 268, is presented in order to study the effect of the LMC tidal field. All the candidate binary clusters show tidal tails, confirming that the pairs are formed by physically linked objects. The stellar mass in the tails covers a large ...
متن کاملLarge Magellanic Cloud Bar: Evidence of a Warped Bar
The geometry of the LMC bar is studied using the dereddened mean magnitudes of the red clump stars ( ) I0 from the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment II catalog. The value of is found to vary in the east-west I0 direction such that both the east and the west end of the bar are closer to us with respect to the center of the bar. The maximum observed variation has a statistical significance...

We present the first results from, and a complete description of, our ongoing UBV I digital photometric survey of the Magellanic Clouds. In particular, we discuss the photometric quality and automated reduction of a CCD survey (magnitude limits, completeness, and astrometric accuracy) that covers the central 8 × 8 of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and 4 × 4 of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)...
